At Backwater Tarpon Fishing in Puerto Rico our goal is to provide you a fishing experience like no other in Puerto Rico. Come join our Captain Felix Cuadrado on a quest to capture these marvelous prehistoric fish at our beautiful breathtaking mangrove system. How many people fit in the boat?
Our boat is limited by the USCG to 5 people including the crew. Our 18′ Flats Boat will fit three adults comfortably and 2 adults and two children as well.
What Tackle will we use for fishing?
Our Light tackle fishing charter experience is best enjoyed when using our custom built 12-15lb test fishing rods equipped with Saragosa 5000 reels. Best combination for fishing these silver kings.
Is fly fishing available?
We offer a great variety of orvis fishing equipment. But not everybody knows how to fly fish so we don’t carry them around. Make sure you let us know before time so we can have that Helios 2 ready for you!
Is there an age limit?
For safety purposes guests must be 5 years or older. Children 12 years of age and younger by law MUST wear a life vest at all times while onboard.
What kind of boat are we going fishing in?
Our light tackle fishing charter will be experienced onboard our 2006 18′ x 8.5′ (yes… 8 feet 6 inches wide) McRay flats fishing boat. Our boat is equipped with multiple batteries, pooling platform with pole, fish finder, GPS, flat walk around surface for effortless more concentrated fishing and powered by a brand new 2014 Mercury 4 stroke 115HP.
Where are you located?
We are located in Cangrejos Yach Club, Carolina. Just 10 minutes away from the airport and 5 minutes away from Isla Verde Hotel District and Condado. Upon reservation, a confirmation email will be sent with directions and interactive map to our location.
What are we fishing for?
San Juan Bay is full of marine life. You will encounter jacks, permits, peacock bass, barracudas, ladyfish, sharks, tarpon etc…. What do we aim for? That’s an easy question…. The Silver King!
What bait will be used?
Tarpon are picky creatures and when they decide to eat something specific, they stick to it. We will throw different types of lures including rapala, dead ballyhoo, minnows, sardines, mojarra & more. We definitely prefer live bait!
Will I get sea-sick?
Lagoon is protected by land, blocking any swells coming in. If you are prawn to get sea sick please drink motion sickness medicaments. Also by request we could stay at the backwaters where the water is as flat as a lake. No sea sick guaranteed in this spot.
